When I produced and directed this piece, I did not know how relevant the theme of “information as a drug” would be in the near future. Artist DataBitch knew and portrays a lone hacker up against a system of “poisoned” information, desperately needing a cure.
We shot in Chicago – on the streets of Chinatown and in the subways beneath downtown. We combined this with the virtual world of the Avatar, all captured on bluescreen and pushing our desktop 3D and compositing systems to the brink.
The creation of this highly detailed world included designing and building multiple custom props, including the “Data Pup,” my personal favorite, which is a hybrid bio tech tablet. E-lectricity made its television premiere during the Sci Fi Channel’s second season of the short film showcase series Exposure.
